I’ve lost my USB stick so I can’t upload photos .. I would get another one, but that’d be the second one this trip
Phat 07 was wicked .. highlights were Digital, Shapeshifter (of course), and a good solid set from ‘rider. I missed PBass Expressway
What were they thinking, putting D-Bridge and Subfocus either side of midnight. Shite. But the festival itself was wicked. Gautham (who played a mad set at the preparty too) and Jake did a tireless job of interviewing (G) and videoing (J) .. check dnbtv.com in a few weeks for the results (I will post a link here).
Now I’m in Christchurch … Cal and Jake have left for Aus, and Gaut for the states. Time to recap and recover ..
Bidding a fond farewell to Wellington today … no photos uploaded still. And I doubt if I will get the chance before Phat ..
Played at a warehouse party Xmas Day night - then hung out for a couple days with Gautham and Cal. Now we’re about to get on a boat to Picton …
Sometime between 1pm and 4pm (NZ time) tomorrow (Thursday 21st Dec 06), I’ll be on the radio in Wellington: Radio Active, 89FM. There’s a live web feed at the Radio Active web site:
http://www.radioactive.co.nz/
Been wandering around Wellington today. Had breakfast with Martyn (Ruffneck Souljah) and met some Wellington crew, I’m shit with names though. My initial impressions are confirmed. Wicked vibes … forgot to bring out my camera with me today, but I’ll make up for it tomorrow.
Got to head back to my room and pick out some tunes for tomorrow .. will make sure I rep the (good) local Sydney shit, as well as UK of course! …
Wellington is wicked. I have been all of five minutes but I’m already crazy about this place. It’s a beautiful vibing city. The landscape around about is gorgeous too …
Solaar are a great funk band I saw in Auckland (twice; once at 420 on K Road and once at a gig down near the harbour). Definitely worth checking out. People were very friendly + welcoming in Auckland: big up Dylan C, Getafix, Ciar, Rire .. and was cool to hang with Oakley, explore the city and get some much needed production tips - will catch up again in Christchurch.
After Auckland I spent a couple days with Shaarne and family in Hamilton. Was great to see Shaarne. Hamilton blows.
Then a long train journey through NZ from Hamiton to Wellington, complete with random whiskey-drinking train buddies and foul biker dudes in cowboy hats. What a relief to get off the train. Anyway I can’t be bothered with this cos I have to explore Wellington. More pics soon.
Left Sydney. It was raining.
Arrived in Auckland. It’s still raining.
Thoughts:
New Zealand seems more British-influenced than Australia somehow. Can’t put my finger on it, they don’t sound English .. but there’s something like-yet-unlike about this place …
Public telephones suck. You need a phone card to make them work. It’s as if someone has jammed the coin slot in every phone in the friggin city. (So that’s the same as Sydney too, then.)
Latte here is pretty good and comes in massive bowls instead of glasses.
All pretty banal stuff, I’ll post again when I’ve seen or done something worth writing about.
I’m going to use this blog as a travelog for NZ .. then maybe keep it going after that with music-related rambles and so on - with RSS it’ll be easy to integrate into the main IR site if we shift that to Drupal …
