Inna Riddim sound come to ruff up Home, 5 September, on the top floor.
Two rooms of bass infused music: Kobra Kai, Firehouse, Percussion Juntion, Ritual, Murda 1.
LOUD!
South Rakkas crew are coming to Sydney!
They’ve produced some great, unique riddims (Clappas, Chinkuzi etc) .. I interviewed them back in 05 - there seems to be a problem with the old Inna Riddim site but you can read the interview on their website (linked above - click on “articles”).
The Sydney gig is at the Oxford Arts Factory, Friday 7 March. Get down there. I think Void and Koncrete Jungle are on the same night - club hopping is in order! They’re all within spitting distance of each other on Oxford St so that should make it a bit easier.

Tickets from Moshtix or Jimmy Sing’s.
Jackie Orszacky, one of the most respected musicians in Sydney, and indeed Australia, has passed away. He leaves a wife, Tina Harrod and her glorious soul-singer voice, and two young daughters.
I knew him only slightly (I interviewed him in May 2004 when we both lived in Newtown), but my impression was of a kind, perceptive and entirely unpretentious man. His loss will be keenly felt in the jazz and blues scene, and beyond. According to his website, his final album is currently being mastered and will be out later this year on Vitamin.
Art Official of Newtown Sound in Wellington, who I met at the Radioactive FM studios at the end of last year, is coming to Sydney. Alongside Switzerland’s Ever Living Sprit and Sydney reggae stalwarts Firehouse, he will be dropping tunes at Hermann’s on Saturday 12 January for “Global Warming“. Outernational vibrations!
It’s No Frills Thanksgiving at the Abercrombie - good idea, terrible name. Processed turkey slices and mayonnaise sandwiches under a trailer park sky. (What next: Black & Gold Christmas? Buy-Lo Diwali?) In fact it’s a drum & bass local producer showcase, with a record fair, food and cheap beer. Sounds alright. I have finally finished a tune so I’ll be playing that at some point in the evening. I meant to post it up here but I’ve left it at home. I’ll do it tomorrow if I’m not too hung over.
Caught the Versionaries yesterday at the Beach Road in Bondi … their “Style Wars” tune is brilliant.
NY-based Hipstep Massive is spreading its tentacles across the globe. It has reached Sydney, first in the form of a Sydney-based slot on its net radio show (featuring 4th Quadrant’s DJ Aggrovator and yours truly, tune in to hipstepradio.com tomorrow midday Sydney time) but there’s more to come in a tangible form .. watch this space.

Shapeshifter ripped it up at the Forum … blinder. I’m in awe.
Nasty Tek Soundsystem, whose Dancehall Reggae Bounce parties over the last couple of years have given Sydney’s reggae and dancehall heads somewhere to get their groove on, are putting on a free one-off night called Reggae Old Gold, at Jimmy Sing’s Record Stand, 302 Cleveland St, Surry Hills, this Saturday.
Nasty Tek, Gold Finder Sound and Jimmy Sing are playing (from the promo email): “strictly big reggae tunes from earlier eras, 80s classics, Studio One, singers tunes and old gold tunes galore!” Should be some tasty cuts - I haven’t heard the other guys play but Nasty Tek have mad tunage from way back when. Click the little flier on the right to see it fullsize.
